It’s ugly sweaters all the way down.
December 3: Dog with Feast

This is a dog in a sweater, with a food bowl that is approximately the same size as the dog.
Rating
Fun ★★★★☆
This is a tough rating. Dogs are fun, and I would feel like a monster to give a low rating to such a good boy. And yet I have lingering questions about the bowl of human femurs.
Ease of Build N/A
I was torn between giving this five stars or zero stars, but decided that “not applicable” was more appropriate (and that the rating will retain the “luminous-vivid-amber” inline styling, because I can’t remember how to make it not that).
There was nothing to build here. It came as-shown, fully complete except for the arrangement of the bones and oversized dish. I feel like this also should have dinged the fun category, because the entire point of a Lego set is building it, but again, if I were to give a puppy a 2-star review, I’d be concerned that Sarah McLachlan would start playing in the background.
Comprehensibility ★★★☆☆
It’s never a good sign when evaluating something’s comprehensibility makes you question your own ability to comprehend. Sure, it’s a little golden retriever with some bones. Cute. Got it.
But a dog bowl the size of an entire dog? These are definitely human femurs, right? The ugly sweater? Maybe the sweater is fine—I don’t personally think that dogs have a firm enough grasp of irony to understand why it would be funny for them to wear ugly sweaters, but who can say (and also, I feel guilty about calling them ugly sweaters now. Maybe they’re just sweaters, but ever since The Brown Bulldozer of Day 1, it’s been in my head. This little fella’s sweater is a seasonally-appropriate forest green with tree motif, and isn’t ugly at all, but I’m still on the lookout for an emerging theme.)
Extra Parts UNKNOWN
I view this as having no extra parts, which is why the cover photo has nothing in the foreground (with the rest of the season’s extra parts deep in the bokeh). It’s possible that Lego expected this dog kit to only have one bone, and has provided a spare bone as an extra part, but it’s too late for me to take it away now. The last guy who tried that is probably down a couple femurs.
Overall ★★★★☆
