December 20: Christmas Tree

This is a lovely Christmas Tree
Rating
Fun ★★★★☆
It’s not exactly “fun” in the most basic sense. Like I’m not going to pretend to drive it around and make vroom vroom noises or have it get into some sort of rumpus with the cod from Day 7. I’m not going to put the bunny in it and pretend it’s a rocket ship bound for a black hole—nobody’s got time for that (based on my flimsy understanding of time dilation near black holes). It does, however, have some fun decorations and is built in an interesting way that uses four triangles to imply that it’s shaped like a roughly conical tree. I also appreciate that it required building at all.
Ease of Build ★★☆☆☆
This was one of the more complicated builds of the season, with a much higher-than-usual parts count and a cool building technique where there’s a central “trunk” to which the green triangles connect. It’s not like it was so mentally taxing that someone would have been able to fry an egg on my scalp, but it’s refreshing to get one that rates lower on this scale for something other than inadequate instructions.
Comprehensibility ★★★★★
This is unmistakably a Christmas Tree.
Extra Parts ★★★★☆
This comes with some spare decorations: a red disk, a gold star, and a black circle with a rod sticking out of it. The latter two can be combined to make the tree topper featured in the main build.
Overall ★★★★☆
It’s a nice tree. I’m curious to see how the last few prizes shake out as we creep toward the big day.
