It’s a winter wonderland.

December 19: Snowman

This is a snowman.

Rating

Fun ★★★☆☆

Within the scheme of this Lego Advent season, this is a reasonable prize. I’m not a huge snowman fan in general—when I was little, it seemed like the plot of all snowman-based content was “Hey kids, wanna make friends with this fun fellow? Hope it never gets above the freezing temperature of water again.” Also, seriously, what are we still mining coal for if not for snowman eyes? Can we please get a face on this guy? I might have to fix it with a Sharpie later, because I’m concerned that he’s still somehow looking at me and I need him to definitely look somewhere else. But these issues aside, this is still far from the most upsetting or boring item this season.

Ease of Build ★★★★☆

The snowman was not difficult to build. Certainly far easier to build than an actual snowman.

Comprehensibility ★★★★☆

Could I talk about how his overall physique has more in common with a ~2003 iMac G4 than a traditional snowman? Sure. Is this clearly a perimeter defense robot masquerading as a snowman with the same sort of unenthusiastic camouflage as those cellular telephone towers that are painted brown with green antennae, trying to pass themselves off as misplaced sequoias? Of course. Am I worried that this snowbot has captured and eaten the Ice Skater with Cookie for her scarf, since she came with the same one, we were given an extra scarf in her kit to draw attention to it, and now here it is on this smug sentry robot? Deeply. But as surely as those wooden claws aren’t enough to dig this snowman’s lack of face out of the uncanny valley, I recognized this as a snowman right away, and I’m chalking that up as a victory.

Extra Parts ★★★☆☆

This prize came with an extra wooden claw and a dark gray circle.

Overall ★★★☆☆

The top hat alone is worth it. Can you even imagine it on the dog? What a hoot.

"Prepare to fend off the bridge abutment."
